Rachel Gall of NW CT teaches, fiddles and calls Traditional New England Country Dances.
Call her at 860-824-8404 for lessons and homespun organic music entertainment.
Rachel Gall has been playing violin since she was 3 years old. As a young adult she began fiddling around with folk music and teaching violin lessons.
Thanks to a Connecticut Heritage grant, Rachel apprenticed with folk musician Lorraine Hammond, while Lorraine worked on her Masters Thesis, recording and writing songs about her childhood in Cornwall, CT. Of that experience, Rachel says, “I got to tag along and learn some of that music.” The project culminated with a concert in Cornwall by Lorraine followed by an open jam session.
The jam session was so popular, that it continued as a weekly gathering for area musicians… One fateful night Rachel declared, “we played that tune so well, we could play it for a dance.” … Still, the Homegrown Band had begun. Rachel continues to play with them for Motherhouse’s first Saturday Dance at the Cornwall Town Hall. She also filled in occasional gigs with Country Spice Band for the late Myrtle Hayden.
