June 14, 2009 at Local Farm, Cornwall CT
Time: 10 am to 4 pm
Fee: $75 per person
Sign up in advance with: Debra Tyler (860) 672-0229
Join us for a one-day workshop in which we will fashion an Appalachian Egg Basket, also known as a small Celtic hoop and rib basket.
Learn about the Celtic origins, and numerous variations, of this style of basket, now made in many places around the world. Our baskets will be small, due to our limited class time, but you will learn what you need to make a larger version suitable as a knitting or garden basket. We will use commercially available reed for our egg basket. Gathering and processing local wild and garden materials that can be used in this type of basket will also be discussed.
Tools: Bring pruning sheers, needle nosed pliers, small wire cutters, and awl if you have them as well as your lunch.
